The UK as proven, once again, that they are not that bright when it comes to the Internet. Not only do they indulge in some of the most ridiculous online censorship going on right now, but they’re now going even deeper into creating piracy blocklists. With the latest additions to the UK piracy blocklist, it’s like they’re trying to Brexit themselves from the Internet. As is the case with that disastrous pending policy with the EU, this too will prove to be quite unsuccessful and contrary to their goals.
UK piracy blocklist expands
New high court ruling on blocking piracy websites
The High Court of the UK recently ruled that more piracy websites are to be blocked. This ruling is part of an ongoing game of virtual whack a mole that the UK High Court has been playing for quite sometime now.
A list of the latest websites includes:
- 123movies.TO, and other associated domains
- 7torrents.TO, and two domains
- aXXOmovies, over a dozen domains
- CouchTuner, over two dozen domains
- Demonoid, over a dozen domains
- EZTV, over 30 domains
That is just a small sample of the over 100 domains that are now going to be blocked. And these aren’t even all of them, this is just the latest list of hundreds that’ve already been pointlessly banned.
The ruling is going to be enforced by the following ISPs:
- Sky
- BT
- Everything Everywhere
- TalkTalk
- Telefónica UK
- Virgin
This adds on top of the incredible amount of censorship that is already going on in the UK right now through these ISPs.
What does this mean for piracy websites in the UK?
Okay, so the big bad High Court of the UK said that these piracy websites are to be added to the block list. Well, game over, that’s it. Pack up all your stuff and go home… This, of course, is not the case at all. All the any of these websites have to do nowIs spend about $10 to get another domain name.
Do not worry about these piracy websites. They will just moved to a new domain.
This fact shows that this additional blocking by the High Court is absolutely pointless. It’s a bit like telling people in Seattle that they can no longer go to the Starbucks in the Pike Place market, so they just walk around the corner to the one up on Pike Street… It doesn’t actually solve anything.
What to do if you cannot get around the UK piracy blocklist
There are two main things that you can do to get around the UK piracy blocklist:
- The first thing you can do is to no longer do business with either of those two ISPs. There are many alternatives out there that you can find.
- You can get a great VPN for Geo-blocking. These tools will encrypt your traffic so that the UK censorship cannot see what websites you are visiting. You will never have to worry about a blocked website again.
the first option is, of course, not entirely possible for most people. How many of you out there stuck in contracts that seem to last for the rest of your life? The second option, however, would be quite wise of you to take advantage of. Not only will it get you around the UK piracy blocklist, but it will also mask your torrid thing and P2P activities. This could save you from a DMCA notice, and many other ugly things.
